Shelter Pets features plush animals that are based on real-life adopted pets. Every Shelter Pet was taken in by a non-profit shelter or rescue, and their story is featured on the Shelter Pets website along with real photos from their families.

The first series of Shelter Pets includes three dogs, two cats, a fox, a bunny, and a rat. They all have their own story to tell, and are soft, cuddly, and ready to be loved!

Each Shelter Pet is 10 inches tall (Chunk the rat is 10 inches long) and are stuffed with beans on the bottom and in the paws.

Chops the Labrador Retriever and Collie Mix That Started It All!

Chops is the inspiration for Shelter Pets, and he was adopted in 2002 in Illinois. His original name was Roach, and when adopted he was estimated to weigh about 35-55 lbs, but ended up being 110 lbs as an adult pup!

Chops was a crazy pup, and a gentle giant as well. At his first puppy school, because of his size he was able to clear the classroom barricade and run around greeting other customers. Chops was promptly expelled from that puppy school, and his boundless energy was well known at the local dog park as well.

As he grew up, Chops ended up being the best dog anyone could ever ask for. When he passed, we wanted to do something to remember him by and this felt like a great way to honor him. He had a distinctive mark on his chest that looked like the mathematical symbol for ‘pi,’ white paws, and a grey beard.
